Next Step Therapy therapists are specialist accredited drug and alcohol counsellors and generic psychotherapists. We offer businesses and Employee Assistance Programmes an integrated and comprehensive substance misuse service. Most otherwise excellent and competent counselling & psychotherapy services do not have the skillsets nor experience to work effectively in the substance misuse field.
We can come to your premises and offer any of our range of services to your clients or we can see them in our anonymous and confidential well-appointed and professional treatment rooms in the central Dublin area. These are the services we can offer:
Screening. This is a brief interview and questionnaire to determine if substance dependence or abuse is present. We also screen for co-existing general mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD etc.
Drug Testing. We carry out on-site saliva or urine drug-testing for Cocaine, Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, Cannabis, Methadone, Ecstasy, Opiates (Heroin), Benzodiazepines, Buprenorphine, Ketamine & Alcohol. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Comprehensive assessment and diagnosis (based on 5th Edition of ASI) and treatment plan. This also includes PHQ9 and GAD7, SASSI and full suite of IAPT assessment tools. We can also carry out your own assessments. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Individual counselling sessions with a trained and experienced therapist who is accredited to work as both an addictions and a general psychotherapeutic counsellor.
General mental health services for individuals with underlying or comorbid mental health problems. See Mood Management Course link. We also see clients for longer term psychotherapy (more than 3 month’s treatment)
Interpersonal Group Psychotherapy to help clients understand, experience and then process destructive patterns from the past and allow them to function more effectively in the here-and-now. The emphasis on interpersonal process rather than content. We have several 1000s of hour’s practice in groupwork
Pre–treatment Group. This is for individuals to receive support and advice in a safe place while they prepare to become abstinent. The main emphasis is on motivational enhancement.
Intensive Outpatient Programme (IOP). This is our flagship programme. It is a modular programme based on extensive research from USA. Relapse Prevention and learning new social skills is central to this programme. It lasts for up to 1 year and can be done at a time appropriate to the client’s needs. We offer groups during the morning, afternoon, evenings or weekends. Please see separate leaflet for further information. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Relapse Prevention based on research from either Gorski, Matrix or TCU Institute for Behavioural Research. We can either provide individual relapse prevention therapy or group sessions.
Aftercare Groups. These are weekly, fortnightly or monthly groups for clients who have completed any of our programmes and provides and provides support and reinforcement.
Family information & support. We provide both information and support groups for the significant others of clients.
CBT Mood Management Course. These are therapeutic programmes for clients who need extra help in certain areas such as social anxiety, depression, panic attacks, anger management, low self-esteem, etc. We have a series of evidence based CBT programmes for mood disorders. There are 2 versions: low intensity and high intensity. Low Intensity Programme consists of between 8 and 12 CBT modules and lasts between 6 and 10 weeks. The High Intensity Programme consists of all the Low Intensity Modules plus individual integrative psychotherapy, psychoeducational training and relapse prevention strategy management. This lasts between 10 and 16 sessions or longer, if necessary. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Dual Diagnosis clients: We also can offer specialised individual CBT sessions or groups for clients with a dual diagnosis where the mental health disorder is not primary. We need a referral from a psychiatrist or community psychiatric team. These include psychotic symptom management etc.
Abstinence based services. This is a core modality in the treatment of addictions although it is part of an integrated therapeutic practice.
Psychoeducational groups are available to enhance existing recovery. These include communicational skills, assertiveness training, anger and aggression management, HIV/AIDS Education, parenting skills etc. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Workshops are usually group sessions devoted to a single topic. We have a repertoire of over 250 topics. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Substance-specific groups are available for marijuana, alcohol, stimulant or cocaine dependence. These consist of between 8 and 15 CBT sessions. They are suitable for clients in early recovery or with a recent history of relapse. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
Disordered Eating Programme, We have a 17 session CBT course to provides strategies and techniques to change the thinking patterns associated with disordered eating. (Please ask for separate leaflet).
